One of the greatest secrets of becoming happy is forgiveniss.
Many people hold a grudge or keep dragging extra baggage with them from the past. It contaminates your happiness.
Your lack of forgiveness will steer your life into a direction of feeling unhappy.
It is unconsciously causing you pain and you will withhold yourself from true happiness.
You need to forgive the people who once in your life did you some wrong. Not for the sake of them but for yourself. Yes, you even need to forgive yourself.
It’s no use trying to be happy if you don’t empty you backpack. The weight will constantly pull you down. The lighter your backpack is, the easier it is for you to move forward to happiness.
The moment you forgive, your backpack will be empty, and happiness will come over you like a warm blanket.
There is however a trick.
You need to forgive without expecting something in return, even as much as an apology.
You therefore really need to let go of every expectation you’ve got.
That isn’t always easy.
Letting go the feeling that somebody has to pay you an emotional or even maybe a financial debt can seem difficult, but I assure you it is worth it.
Maybe this is a good way to explain it.
Let’s suppose somebody owes you money, let’s say 1000 dollars. You’ve asked many times to pay it back but there’s always an excuse.
You can claim it’s a lot of money so why would you forgive this person? Well because this thing is constantly on you mind and it will cloud your feeling. The moment you let it go you will feel a big relief.
This is not to say that it’s acceptable that someone doesn’t pay you back. That is something entirely different.
The goal is to clear your mind so you can focus on positive things that will make you happy instead of constantly go over it in your mind, wondering when this person is going to pay you back.
Forgive the person, and don’t attach yourself to the outcome. Let it go and reprogram yourself. Think about the fact that it’s ok that you won’t see the money back. Should this person however somehow pay you back, it’s only a win.
But go on living your life and set yourself free by forgiving.
