I don’t know what the situation in your country is, but Belgium is in full lockdown at this moment.

First of all, let’s give our heroes a big high five. All the people who are still working to keep us save, who take care of us in hospitals and those who make sure there is still food.

But to make sure I don’t forget anyone, thank you everyone who takes care of somebody.

This said, I want to talk about something we can all do to fight off corona. And I don’t mean washing your hands, although that is very important too.

Let me explain what I mean:

I take a walk each day to clear my head and to get some exercise. The thing that strikes me most is that social distancing is taken very literally. Half of the people I meat on the street don’t even say hello.

Why is that?

Are they afraid corona will attack them if they say hello?

C’mon people. Let’s again say good morning, good afternoon and good evening.

Is that so hard?

And if you really want to push it.

Why don’t you try to smile!

I know it won’t stop corona, but it will make you and other people feel better longer than you think. This is worth more than anything else right now.

Social distancing really doesn’t mean we can’t talk anymore or that we can’t smile at each other.

Now, in these confusing times this, it is something we all can do to make your neighborhood a little more pleasant. It is no trouble at all, and it is so easy to do.

Look each other in the eye and greet each other. Just say hello, that’s enough. And if you can’t hear an answer.

Just smile, because a smile is the shortest distance between two people.

Keep it safe and take good care of each other.
