Let’s fight Corona!
I couldn’t agree more. But let’s choose our words more carefully.
In these exceptional times we need more social behavior then ever. We need people around us, even now. People need people.
The correct word that they should have used is physical distancing.
Now, more than ever we need a kind word, we need people to talk to. And yet often this measure, that is without any doubt necessary, seems to have a strange effect on people.
The physical distance seems to have an influence on our behavior. Some people are even scared to say hello. They look at the ground when they pass you on the street.
Waiting at stores they are very busy checking their ‘friends’ on Facebook. Now even more than before.
It is a strange effect. Now that we have the time to interact with each other, it is only in a digital way and it’s confusing.
Suppose these measures would last 6 months?
That would have a devastating effect, not only on the economy but at the social behavior of people.
Don’t get me wrong, all this activity on social media has some merit, but in times like these we should try to interact again on a more social basis.
Let’s try to pick up the phone rather that to send a message on WhatsApp. Let’s say hi when we encounter people on the street.
Let’s not stop the physical encounter. It is safe to talk to each other!
Let’s stop and talk! Let’s use Corona as an excuse not to NOT talk to each other, but to talk.
You can do that perfectly while keeping a safe distance.
Let’s change social distancing in physical distancing, because we need social contact just as much as we need water.
Let’s not let Corona win the fight. Not physically and certainly not socially.
Take care and be safe.
