WAS THE END OF THE 20th CENTURY THE END OF THE GOLDEN CAGE?

I remember the time when we had no choice but to stay in our job. At least it was harder. The internet and smartphones were something that only existed in SF movies. I never thought the internet would revolutionize our work environment. But here we are during a worldwide pandemic, working from home and the world doesn't seem to stop. But still, we tend to hold on to our jobs, which we often don’t like very much like a circus artist to his trapeze. It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. This is the day and age we can choose our job. This is the day and age degrees and diplomas are losing their worth. We get to chose to do what we love. And if we can’t find a job which provides that, we get to chose to start something on our own. Even COVID-19 can’t stop us! It’s time to realize that we aren’t in the 20th century anymore where we hated our jobs but stuck to it for our pension. At weekends we had a beer singing ‘I don’t like Mondays’ and on Mondays, we loathed the fact we needed to go to work and Friday couldn't come soon enough.

Meanwhile, we live in the 21st century!

Does that still sound like your life? Are you happy with that? If not, open your eyes and look at the opportunities. You don’t have to stay in a job for 30 years anymore. Where in the previous century it didn’t look good when you had changed jobs too often, it now is an asset. When you don’t want to work for a boss anymore, you are in luck. The 21st century is becoming the century of entrepreneurship.

I think it is already. You don’t even have to wait until you’re 18 to go to work, or shall I say to make your hobby into a profitable business. 16-year olds are making more money than executives nowadays. The figures they are making are astronomical. I am not making this up, it’s just the fact of the day.

What is the scam? There isn’t any. We scam ourselves thinking there is no alternative to the job we hate. On one hand, we think it’s not possible to make our money doing what we love but on the other hand, we keep downloading e-books that promise to make us rich in 90 days.

We are looking so hard that we don’t even know what we are looking for anymore. So why don’t you stop looking and decide what you want to do? What’s your passion? What makes you jump out of bed every morning? What stops you from finally starting to look at jobs you would love?

Would you still call it a job if you loved it? In my previous career, I always left home saying I was going to play. How's does that sound? There’s been never more proof of people not only making a living but earning tons of money doing what they love.

Why are you still in your golden cage? Fancy car, iPhone, laptop, business lunches but wishing it was already weekend. The 20th century is long gone! Welcome to the 21st century.
